SEWER PROJECT815-694-2273, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Thank you to all of the residents that have stopped by the office and verified the location of their septic tanks. If you have not already done so, please stop by the office. The location that is marked on the village maps will determine where the sewer line will be dropped at your property line. The residents are responsible for running the sewer line from the property line to the desired location. It is in your best interest to have the sewer line dropped as close to the final destination as possible. This will cost you less in the long run. The more pipe you have to run, the more it will cost.
Annexation of several properties into the Village is proceeding and a public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Clifton Community Building at 330 E. Fourth Avenue.
The sewer project is on schedule and pipe has been placed around town. Digging, weather permitting, may begin within the week.
WELL #4
Drilling for Well #4 may also begin within the week. Please be aware of possible congestion around the pump house in the 200 block of South First Street.
BURN SITE CLOSED
The yard waste burn site is CLOSED and no other location for this service has been identified. If you have any ideas, please contact the village office. Both Jensen’s IGA and Hinrich have refuse bags available for purchase. These bags will be picked up by A&J Disposal on your regularly scheduled pickup day.
VILLAGE WEBSITE
The Village is in the process of reviewing its website listings (www.cliftonillinois.com). If you are a club, organization, or business, please review the information listed for accuracy. If you are not listed and wish to be, please contact the Village office.
GRANTS
The Village has now completed its application for two grants. Both the STAG grant through Congressmen Tim Johnson’s office and the grant through the DCEO pertain to residential sewer hook-ups. Thank you again to the many volunteers who helped complete the Village’s income survey in December.
VILLAGE SWIMMING POOL
The village pool is in need of improvements to the filtration system. The Board of Trustees are currently looking into replacing the filters and quotes are currently running around $30,000.
CENSUS 2010
Starting this month, census forms will be delivered to Clifton residents along with the rest of the country. When you receive yours, answer the 10 short questions and then mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. If you don't mail the form back, you may receive a visit from a census taker, who will ask you the questions from the form. It is important to get an accurate count of residents for our community. In fact, the information the census collects helps to determine how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services. A census worker will be at the Clifton Public Library from March 1st through April 19th, between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will be able to answer questions and assist with completion of census forms.
