Sewer Project
ATTENTION VILLAGE RESIDENTS:  If you are unable to stop by the office during normal hours (M – F; 8 – 11 am), please call the office at (815) 694-2273, or e-mail us at villageclifton@yahoo.com,  to arrange an alternative method of informing the village of the location of your septic tank.
Construction crews for the sewer project are taking advantage of the good weather and have completed borings under the railroad and Old Rt. 45.  Work will be done through some of the farm properties first so that crops can be put in as soon as possible.  The sewer plant itself is being constructed and materials are arriving daily.  Leander Construction is in charge of this phase of the project.
A four-inch (4”) SDR 26 or better pipe with a clean out for your line will be required to hook-up to the sewer system from your home.  Other information will become available as we progress, including a list of qualified waste/sewer contractors that have registered with the Village.

Clifton Fun Days Meeting
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the Clifton Fun Days is invited to a meeting on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Clifton Community Building.  The purpose of this meeting is to bring interested volunteers together to discuss plans and ideas that you may have.  Currently we have volunteers for the garage sales, 5k run, beer tent, and some entertainment.  The event is in need of volunteers for all other areas.  If you are interested in helping in anyway, please attend.  If you are unable to attend the meeting; however are interested in helping, please call the office at (815) 694-2273.  The fun days will be held on July 9th & 10th.

Well #4 / Water Tower / Pool
Well #4 is completed and is producing as much water as the two existing wells.  This should provide the village with an adequate supply for at least twice its current size.
Pool filters have been ordered and plans are for the pool to be ready in time for the scheduled opening set for the Thursday before Memorial Day.

Sewer Project
The sewer project is proceeding in the north part of the Village and those residents that have not identified the location of the septic tank for their residence need to do so at the Village office at 350 E. Fourth Avenue as soon as possible.  Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.  You may call the office at (815) 694-2273, or e-mail us at villageclifton@yahoo.com, if you are unable to stop by the office during normal hours.  Again, the location that is marked on the village maps will determine where the sewer line will be dropped at your property line.  The residents are responsible for running the sewer line from the property line to the desired location.  It is in your best interest to have the sewer line dropped as close to the final destination as possible.  This will cost you less in the long run.  The more pipe you have to run, the more it will cost.
A four-inch (4”) pipe with a clean out for your line is required to hook-up to the sewer system from your home.

Yard Waste Burn Site
The Yard Waste Burn Site on the north side of town is now closed due to the sewer project.  Please do not leave yard waste in the driveway.

Well #4 / Water Tower
Well #4 is now dug and is producing 500 gallons per minute.  The Village is awaiting electrical and piping contract work to be completed.  The water tower is scheduled to be cleaned and painted this spring with bids to be opened April 20th at 7:00 p.m.

SEWER PROJECT
Surveying work continues throughout the Village for the sewer distribution lines.  At the North end of the Village, Dawn Construction is getting ready to vertically bore under the CN Railroad tracks and the Old Route 45 State Highway.
Thank you to all of the residents that have stopped by the office and verified the location of their septic tanks.  If you have not already done so, please stop by the office.  The location that is marked on the village maps will determine where the sewer line will be dropped at your property line.  The residents are responsible for running the sewer line from the property line to the desired location.  It is in your best interest to have the sewer line dropped as close to the final destination as possible.  This will cost you less in the long run.  The more pipe you have to run, the more it will cost.
WELL #4
The Well #4 project has been started and digging will begin this week.  The Village has spoken with the IEPA and has requested funding for both this project and the Locust Street main project.

VILLAGE PARKS / INFORMATION
Clifton Fun Days will be held on July 9 & 10.  Please call, email, or stop by the Village office if you are interested in helping out with this event.  The Village is in need of volunteers.

The Pools and Parks Committee held a meeting on Monday, March 29, 2010 to discuss the pool filtration replacement.  The committee will make its’ recommendation to the board at the next scheduled meeting on April 6, 2010.

CENSUS 2010
Thank you to all of the residents who have responded to the 2010 Census.  As of today (3/30/10), the Village of Clifton’s response rate is 70%, while Iroquois County’s response rate is 59%, the State of Illinois’ response rate is 48%, and the National rate is 46%.  It is important to get an accurate count of residents for our community.  In fact, the information the census collects helps to determine how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services.
